ABINGTON, Pa - The Abington women's Lacrosse team will be looking forward to a new season at a new home. Last year the 2014 season was a rebuilding season for the Nittany Lions, after finishing 4-12 and 4-5 in the NEAC, Abington will be looking toward a brighter future.
"It's exciting" said head coach
Noelle Powell. "We are eager to see what the season brings, we have a new team, a new turf facility, and new competition that we've never seen."
Abington will not need to look far for inspiration, the passing of former coach Deb Andress and teammate
Sara Sawick has played a role in shaping the team.
"The events of this past year already have rocked us to the core and while they could have easily shattered any strong individual or team, this group has stuck together and have not faltered or hesitated in picking each other up. These are the type of student-athletes that as a coach you want to be surrounded by."
With the opening of Memorial Field, a brand new turf facility, the Nittany Lions are looking forward to having the edge at home.
Memorial Field will sport plenty of new faces for the Nittany Lions. With seven freshmen on the roster, Abington will have to rely on young talent. But Abington will have the senior leadership it needs to be a balanced force on the field.
"I see there is a lot of potential and room to have shared leadership as each player has something unique to bring to the table. I am looking forward to a surprise around every corner and with the chemistry that we've had all preseason; this team should hit its stride earlier than the past two years. We are a new team from seasons past, with a fresh perspective on the game and everyone is picking up the system quickly this year."
Abington open's its season traveling to Bryn Mawr tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. But the Nittany Lions will christen memorial field Tuesday March 3
rd against Hood College, the field will be dedicated April 11
th against Morrisville State.
