ABINGTON, Pa. – Last season the Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team struggled against the eventual NEAC Champion SUNY Poly Wildcats, but times change. The Nittany Lions shattered records in a 26-10 romp over the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.  With the takedown, the Nittany Lions sit atop of the NEAC standings with a 7-0 record overall and 3-0 in the conference, the only undefeated team left in the NEAC.

th in the
preseason polls, the Nittany Lions scored a program high 26 goals over last year's champs.
"We put together a total team effort after a slow start" said head women's lacrosse coach
Noelle Powell. We've always worked very hard and it's been a long tough road to get to this point. We have perspective where we are, and the road that got us here."
Abington had seven different goal scorers, but were led by
Melissa Felicetti (Willow Grove, Pa.) with six goals and two assists in the game. Defensively attacker
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) did the dirty work, winning 10 draw controls, scooping 11 ground balls and causing five turnovers.
"We had true grit, junior captain
Bridget Meade (Willow Grove, Pa.) commented. "The hustle, heart, and pride that we have continuously keeps us going. I've never been more proud of this team."
In the first half, Abington cruised with an early 7-1 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Felicetti, and Sarah Eisle (Langhorne, Pa.).  But the Wildcats proved to be fierce competitors in the physical match-up. The Wildcats slowly clawed back into the game and shifted the momentum in their favor right before the half with goal in at the 1:11 mark down 11-6.
After the break the Wildcats put the Nittany Lions on edge with three consecutive goals only down 11-9. A goal from Hayes put a little breathing room between the Nittany Lions and Wildcats, but SUNY Poly forced the Nittany Lions to take a timeout with another goal. After the time out the Nittany Lions showed resiliency and fired eight consecutive goals to overcome the adversity.  The scoring spree was highlighted by
Michaela Mast (Pottstown, Pa.) who recorded three consecutive goals.  The nation's no. 4 scoring offense kept its foot on the gas with another six goals in the final ten minutes to close out the Wildcats.
Abington will face a tough road test when they travel to Medaille College on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
