AUBURNDALE, Fla – The Penn State Abington Men Baseball team fell to NEWMAC Conference's Clark University in their opening game of the Rusmatt Baseball Invitational 13-8. The Nittany had a total of 12 hits for the game. All three pitchers combined for nine strikeouts throughout the day.
The Nittany Lions were the first team to get on board in the third inning. Sophomore Stevie Stevenson (Westampton, NJ) got on base after he singled to right field. His hit advanced a runner and drove home a run.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, junior Brett Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) singled to center field for the Nittany Lions. Senior Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored on the hit. The Nittany Lions and Cougars were tied 2-2 going into the 5th.
Clark went on a scoring spree from the 5th to 7th inning and took a 13-4 lead.
Despite the margin, Abington fought all the way to the end. Freshman Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) reached first baseball after an error by a Clark 2nd baseman. Freshman Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA)Â scored on the hit. The Nittany Lions scored three more runs however it wasn't enough. Abington dropped the game 13-8 against Clark.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action tomorrow morning 9:15 A.M. against Emerson College in the Rusmatt Baseball Invitational.
