Nittany Lions Earn a Pair of Wins in Florida

Auburndale, Fla – The Penn State Abington baseball team picked up a pair of wins over the past few days in the RussMatt Invitational Tournament. Currently the Nittany Lions sit at 2-5 for the season.

Game One
After three innings, Abington led Emerson 2-0 going into the 4th inning. During the bottom of the 4th inning, junior Kyle Marshall's (Fairless Hills, PA) hit got him to second base. The play drove home a run from freshman Darren Aupperle (Barrington, NJ). Later in the inning, freshman Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) landed a hit that resulted in an RBI. Marshall scored on the hit to extend Abington's lead. The Nittany Lions would score one more run that inning off a wild pitch from an Emerson pitcher. They took a commanding 5-0 lead at the end of the 4th.

The Nittany Lion continued their dominating performance in the 8th inning. During the inning, Aupperle scored after a hit flied out to center field. This also resulted in Marshall advancing to third base.
Marshall would score later in the inning after an Emerson shortstop made an error. Abington had a commanding 9-0 lead over Emerson at the end of the 8th. The game finished 9-1.

Game Two
In their game against Montclair State the Nitany Lions were defeated by the Red Hawks, 5-0.

Junior Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) got the first hit for the Nittany Lions in the game. His hit landed him a single in the Top of the 4th inning.

After a couple more innings, Montclair would extend their lead to 5-0.

In the 7th inning, freshman Paul Woodley (Levittown, PA) landed a base hit and got on first base Marshall was walked by a Montclair pitcher. Despite the two players on base, Abington were unable to muster out a run.

Game Three
Next the Penn State Abington baseball team won big against Lyndon State. The win improved their record to 2-5 overall. Freshman Michael Riley (Stratford, NJ) earned the victory in the game. He pitched all nine innings and had a total of five strikeouts.

The Nittany Lions were the first team to strike in the 1st inning. Freshman Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) reached second base after his hit. This drove home two runs and resulted in a 2 RBI hit.
Abington would strike again in the 2nd inning. Sophomore Stevie Stevenson (Westampton, NJ) reached base off an error by a Lyndon State shortstop. This drove home a run from Marshall. The Nittany Lions led the Hornets 3-1 at the end of the 2nd inning. 

In the 4th inning, sophomore Julio Aira IV (Miami Fla.) landed a double. The hit drove home two runs and gave Aira 2 RBIs for the play.

The Nittany Lions offense stayed hot throughout the game. Abington scored another run after McCarty singled out. The hit drove freshman  Himmelreich home from third base. Abington won the game 11-4 over Lyndon State. The Nittany Lions had a combined eight RBIs at the end of the game. The team also had a total of four doubles against the Hornets.

Abington will return to action tomorrow morning 9:00 A.M. against King's College in the Rusmatt Invitational Tournament.
