JENKINTOWN, Pa – The Penn State Abington Baseball team continued their winning streak Saturday afternoon as they swept Wells College. The Nittany Lions won the first game 8-1 and 28-7 in the second game. The 28 runs scored in game two is a program record that was previously held at 24. In the second game, the Nittany Lions and Express had a combined 39 hits. The two wins improved their record to 5-0 in the conference and 14-7 overall.

In game one, the Nittany Lions wasted no time to get on the board as they took advantage of Wells' pitching struggles early on. During the first inning, the Wells pitcher walked the Nittany Lions batters twice with the bases loaded. This gave Abington two of their three runs in the first inning.

During the second inning, freshman pitcher
Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) picked off a Wells player on first base. Moments later, the freshman pitcher picked off a second runner to keep the Express off the base path.

In the 6
th inning, sophomore
Julio Aira IV (Miami Fla.) found himself in a situation with the bases loaded and two outs. Aira made the most of his at bat and landed an impressive hit to the right side of the field. The hit drove home three runs and gave Abington a 7-1 lead at that point of the game. The Nittany Lions would go on and score one more run. McCarty pitched all seven innings and earned the win on the mound after another stout performance.

In the second game of the double header, sophomore
Stevie Stevenson (Westampton, NJ) and freshman
Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) had a combine 11 RBIs to lead the Nittany Lions in their historic win.

Abington quickly jumped into a commanding lead in the first inning by putting up seven runs by the end of the inning. The Nittany Lions 'offense continued to ignite as they put up 4 runs in the 5
th and 6
th inning respectively.
During the bottom of the 7
th inning,
Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ), Aira IV and Stevenson all slammed their pitch over the fence for home runs to left field. The Nittany Lions had a comfortable 24-5 lead after seven innings of play in game two. Abington's record breaking run would come in the 8
th inning when Rizzo doubled to left field. The hit drove home a run from sophomore Jon Rivera and the 25
th run of the game for the Nittany Lions. Abington would go on and score three more runs to close out the game.Â
The Nittany Lions will return to action tomorrow as they host Cazenovia College at 12:00 P.M.
