JENKINTOWN, Pa – On his birthday, freshman
Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) played a key role in helping the Nittany Lions win both of their double-header against SUNY Poly on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Alverthorpe Park. McCarty notched a total of 4 hits, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base to help Abington win game one 9-7 and game two 8-5. The wins improved the Nittany Lions record to 11-0 in the conference and 21-7 overall for the year.

In game one, Abington found themselves down 4-0 after the top of the 2
nd inning ended. The Nittany Lions would score their first run of the game during the bottom of the 2
nd inning when junior
Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) reached home plate off of a deep sacrifice fly ball into left field.

SUNY Poly would score another run in the top of the next inning; however the Nittany Lions persevered and never gave up despite being down 5-1 at the moment. During the bottom of the 4
th inning, freshman
Paul Woodley (Levittown, PA) reached based on a fielder's choice which resulted in junior
Kyle Marshall (Fairless Hills, PA) scoring from third base.

Abington capitalized on the SUNY Poly pitching mistakes and scored three more runs in the 5
th and 6
th inning before sophomore
Stevie Stevenson (Westampton, NJ) came up to bat. Stevenson singled up to the middle of the field and drove home two runs for the Nittany Lions which gave them their first lead of the game at 7-5. Abington and SUNY Poly would both score two more runs as the game runs its course with the Nittany Lions getting the 9-7 win. Â

Game two would offer a different story for the Nittany Lions, as they start out the first inning red hot. McCarty kicked off the party after his double to left field drove home two runs. Moments later, McCarty would reach home plate thanks to a hit from Woodley. Abington would get another 2 RBI hit later that inning when Senior
Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit went straight through the middle of the field.

SUNY Poly clawed their way back in the game and tied it after scoring 5 runs between the 4
th and 6
th inning.Â

During the bottom of the 8
th inning, Dipatri had a vital hit to center field that scored two runners and gave the Nittany Lions a 7-5 lead. Abington would score one more run to earn the win. Freshman
Zach Brightbill (Birdsboro, PA) had a strong 3 innings to earn his first win of the season while giving up no runs in game two.

Abington will return to action on Tuesday as they host the 7
th ranked team in the country Rowan University at 3:30 P.M.
