ORLANDO, FL - The Penn State Abington baseball team bounced back with a 4-1 win over Rose-Hulman to open the RussMatt Baseball Invitational on Friday morning. The Nittany Lions improve to 2-3 after the win.Â
Sophomore pitcher
Pat McDonald (North Wales, PA) had a solid outing getting six innings of work with only one earned run and three strikeouts.Â
The Nittany Lions were first on the board in the second inning when
Bobby Grife (Cherry Hill, NJ)Â hit a deep ball to center field that allowed
Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) to score with a sacrifice fly. Abington kept the Fighting Engineers off the board until the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly of their own to tie the game 1-1.Â
In the top of the 12th inning the Nittany Lions loaded the bases for
Bill Trimble (Yardley, PA) who drew an RBI walk to take the lead. Later in the inning
Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ)stepped up to the plate and slammed his pitch for a double to drive in another two runs to give the Nittany Lions breathing room.
Junior pitcher
Nick Hopely (Croydon, PA) closed out the game with three consecutive outs to earn the win.
Abington will continue their spring training tomorrow when they face off against Neumann University. Â
