Nittany Lions Topped by Neumann 9-8

ASTON, PA. – The Penn State Abington baseball team traveled down to Neumann University, but fell to the Knights 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon. After the loss the Nittany Lions fall to 5-8 for the season.

Senior Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) notched his first home run of the season going 1-of-2 at the plate. Sophomore Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) led the Nittany Lions at the plate going 3-of-5 with two doubles in the effort.

The Nittany Lions were first on the board thanks to DiPatri's two run home run in the bottom of the second, but the Knights chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the frame.

Up 2-1 in the fourth inning, Bill Trimble (Yardley, PA) drove in another run for the Nittany Lions after he smashed his pitch out to center field for a RBI double.

The Knights rallied in the bottom half of the inning with four consecutive runs to take a 5-3 lead.

In the sixth inning Darren Aupperle (Barrington, NJ) and Zach Morales (Barrington, NJ) each drove in runs to tie the game. Abington took the lead again in the seventh inning off a Paul Woodley (Levittown, PA) single through the left side to drive in the go-ahead run. Trimble capped off the scoring in the inning with a sac fly to deep right field to give the Nittany Lions the 7-5 advantage.

Neumann again answered to tie the game in the bottom half of the seventh and scored the game winning run in the eighth inning to put away the Nittany Lions.

Abington will continue on the road when they travel to Muhlenberg College on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
