LANGHORNE, PA. – The Penn State Abington baseball team faced off against Cairn University, but fell to the Highlanders 11-6 on Wednesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fall to 7-8 after the loss.
Sophomores
Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) and
Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) led the way both knocking in home runs for their first of the season.
The Highlanders were first on the board in the bottom of the first with three runs, but
Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) answered in the second inning with his RBI double to right center field.
Cairn added another two runs to give the hosts the 5-1 advantage. In the fifth inning sophomore
Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) drew an RBI walk to cut the lead.Â
A big sixth inning for the Highlanders pushed their lead to 9-2 taking advantage of mistakes on the mound.
In the eighth inning the Nittany Lions tried to rally with a pair of homers from McCarty and Rizzo, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Highlanders.
Next the Nittany Lions will open conference play with a three game series at Gallaudet starting this Saturday at noon.
