Baseball Takes Two from Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, DC – The Penn State Abington baseball team opened the first day of its series with Gallaudet, and took two from the Bison in a 7-0 win in game one, and an 11-5 victory in game two. The Nittany Lions improve their record to 9-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

In game one the Nittany Lions blanked the Bison thanks to a great outing on the mound from Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA). In his seven innings, McCarty only gave up five hits and struck out six batters for his second win of the season. The Nittany Lions earned their seven runs on 10 hits including an RBI triple from freshman Bill Trimble (Yardley, PA) to highlight a four run inning in the sixth frame.

Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) got the Nittany Lions on the board in the first inning of game two thanks to his RBI double to right field. Gallaudet tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI double. Senior Brett Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) put the Nittany Lions into the lead with his sacrifice fly, and McCarty added to the total when he ripped his pitch down the left line to drive in another run. In the sixth inning the Bison put together a run to bring them within one run down 6-5. Abington put away the Bison in the ninth inning thanks to Jaden Himmelreich's (Temple, PA) bases-clearing thee run double down the right field line.

Abington will look for the series sweep tomorrow when they face Gallaudet at 12:00 p.m.
