Baseball Completes Sweep of Gallaudet

WASHINGTON DC, - The Penn State Abington baseball faced off against Gallaudet on the final day of the three-game series and completed the sweep with a 11-8 win over the Bison on Sunday afternoon. After the win the Nittany Lions improve to 10-9 for the season and 3-0 in the conference.

At the plate Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) drove in a team high five RBIs, and Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) went 4-of-6 with two runs scored to lead the Nittany Lions. On the mound Zach Brightbill (Birdsboro, PA) stepped into the game in the fifth inning and earned his second win of the season, pitching two innings with two strikeouts.

Abington took advantage of early errors by the Bison to put two across the plate in the first inning. The Bison continued to struggle in the second inning with another two runs scoring off of a wild pitch and passed ball.  With two runners on and two outs Rizzo stepped up to the plate and drove his pitch to deep left field to give the Nittany Lions the 6-0 lead in the second inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bison cut the lead with two runs, and added another in the third down 6-3.  Another double by Rizzo highlighted a three run inning in fourth to give the Nittany Lions the 9-3 advantage. Gallaudet chipped away at the lead in the fourth with two runs, and came within striking distance with another three runs in the fifth. After helping the Nittany Lions on the mound, Brightbill took advantage of another error by the Bison to give Abington some breathing room in the sixth inning. Zach Morales (Barrington, NJ) put the game out of reach for Gallaudet after his RBI in the eighth inning.

The Nittany Lions will return home to host powerhouse The College of New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
