ABINGTON, Pa. — This past weekend, Penn State Abington athletics welcomed special athletes and olympians for a series of activities and events sponsored by Abington's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in the Athletic Building.
Abington Athletics worked with the Bucks County Special Olympics Organization and hosted a day of activities for the special athletes. After the sports stations with relay races and competition, Abington organized a lunch for the group, and invited the special athletes to the Nittany Lions men's and women's basketball games against Gallaudet University.
"We were pleased to host the Bucks County Special Olympics at our campus and and have them join in with our student-athletes for a day filled with fun activities," said Caytlin Friis, Penn State Abington Women's Softball coach. "It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved, and I'm extremely proud of our student-athletes for helping to make this another successful event."
"I thought the event was incredibly successful, and it's always an honor to host Bucks County Special Olympics. I'm particularly proud of the Penn State Abington student-athletes who volunteered on Saturday," noted Michael Litz, SAAC president and Abington tennis player. "The smiles that they were able to bring to the faces of the Special Olympics Athletes, as well as the relationships they were able to build that morning, ultimately made the event the success that it was."
