Kaminski Wins 10,000-Meters at Bill Butler Invitational

RESULTS

West Chester, Pa. –
Penn State Abington freshman Mason Kaminski won the 10,000-meters at the annual Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester University on Saturday.
 
Meet Highlights
 
* Kaminski won his first collegiate race and recorded the first individual victory for the Nittany Lions this season as he finished first overall in the 10,000-meters.  He finished in a time of 33:59.85 establishing the first-ever program record in the event. 
 
* Freshman Joseph Mahon broke the school record in the 200-meters as he finished the event in 23.47 seconds in his season debut.  Mahon's time beat out the previous mark of 23.51 seconds set last season at the East Stroudsburg All-American Meet by teammate William Lotoza.  Mahon also competed in the 400-meters and finished in 55.78 seconds.
 
* Freshman Bobby Caruso finished sixth overall in the javelin throw with a distance of 122' 4" (37.30m).  Caruso's distance shattered his previous school record distance of 114' (35.01m) set last week at the Ursinus Springfest. 
 
* Also in the javelin, sophomore Eden Patterson finished in the top-10 with a ninth place showing after recording a distance of 88' 2" (26.88m).  Patterson also competed in the shot put and recorded a new personal-best distance of 25' 5.25" (7.75m).  He also took part in the discus and recorded a distance of 70' 3" (21.42m).
 
* Freshman Daniel Kulb finished eighth overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase.  He finished in 13:01.44 in his first-ever running of the event.
 
* Sophomore Joseph Thompson set a new personal-best in the 400-meters with a time of 59.47 seconds.
 
* Lotoza recorded a new personal-best in the 800-meters as he crossed the finish line in 2:09.92.  He also competed in the 200-meters and finished in 24.58 seconds.
 
* Freshman Justin Heintz also set a personal-best in the 800-meters as he finished in 2:19.50.  Heintz also competed in the 1,500-meters and recorded a time of 4:58.82.
 
* Sophomore Calvin Chen set two new personal-bests at the Bill Butler Invitational.  He recorded a tie of 2:26.24 in the 800-meters and finished in 5:11.34 in the 1,500-meters.
 
* Freshman Edison Chen came away with two new personal-best times in both the 800-meters (2:37.17) and the 1,500-meters (5:34.65).
 
* Freshman Jackie Chen competed in the 10,000-meters and finished fourth overall with a time of 39:59.86 in his first-ever running of the event.
 
* Freshman Omar Sewell recorded a new personal-best distance in the discus.  Sewell recorded a distance of 81'0" (24.69m).  He also competed in the shot put with a distance of 29'6.75" (9.01m) and the javelin with a distance of 79'5" (24.20m).

Abington returns to action on Thursday, April 16 as the Nittany Lions compete in the Lincoln University Invitational.
