GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Penn State Abington defeated both host Gwynedd-Mercy College and Keystone College 3-0, capping a tri-match sweep on Saturday at the Griffin Complex.
Abington (14-6, 4-4 NEAC) managed to upset the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-10) thanks to a team effort of a .371 attack percentage overall.
Johangelie Thomas led the team with nine kills, while freshman
Abby Millan established a career high of nine service aces. Newcomer
Leah Brown tallied 24 total assists, while senior
Krysten Boyd recorded 19 digs in the victory.
The Lady Lions outlasted the Giants of Keystone College in the second match, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) for the second time this season.
Once again, Millan led the team on attack with 13 kills and five aces, while Thomas recorded 10 kills. Brown delivered the set-up with 25 assists and 16 digs. What was astonishing was that five Lady Lion players tallied a combine total of 74 total digs, all double-digits. Sophomore
Kate Schalck led the team on defense with three solo blocks, as Boyd came up with 19 digs for the victory.
The Abington volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, October 16
th, when the Lady Lions host Bryn Athyn at the Athletic gym, beginning at 6 p.m. Prior to the start of the match, the Lady Lions will honor their senior class of
Krysten Boyd and
Maria Narodetsky.
