Box Score Bethlehem, Pa. - The Penn State Abington volleyball squad closed out their season earlier this evening with a loss against Moravian College. The Lady Lions, seeded seventh in the ECAC Division III South championships, fought bravely, but in the end the Greyhounds attack was simply too strong, and the visitors were swept out in straight sets.
Penn State Abington was led by freshman outside hitter
Abby Millan, who tallied seven kills, two digs, and a serving ace en route to closing out one of the greatest single-season performances in Lady Lions history. Millan finishes the season with 343 total kills, more than doubling the previous single season record of 158. Millan also set a new mark in serving aces with 83 on the year.
Fellow Lady Lions
Johangelie Thomas and
Kate Schalck added four and two kills respectively, while sophomore
Leah Brown led the team with three assists. The Greyhounds were led by freshman Victoria Bobyak, who recorded nine kills and a block, while Moravian junior Jesse Krasley led the team with nine digs. Moravian will move on to face Swarthmore in the ECAC semifinals, with the winner awaiting the victor of the other semifinal match, a battle between Bethany and Cabrini.
For the Lady Lions, the loss should do little do damper the positive vibes coming from within the volleyball program at Penn State Abington. The team closes the 2012 campaign with an 18-11 record, a huge step up from the tougher records of years past. With huge production numbers from everybody on the team, the future looks bright for the Penn State Abington volleyball squad, and only time will tell just how far the program can go in the future.
