The Penn State Abington baseball team improved to 11-9 overall on Thursday afternoon after two wins over visiting Valley Forge Christian College with a 19-1 decision in game one and a 10-4 victory in game two.
Game 1: Abington 19, Valley Forge 3
Abington posted six runs in the first five innings of the game before breaking the game wide open with a 13-run sixth inning, setting a school record for most runs scored in an innings, with just nine hits.
AJ Vagliani went 3-for-4, scoring a run with two RBIs. Freshman
Tom Ditro went 2-for-4 scoring three runs, earning four RBIs.
Junior
Daniel Hill finished with a walk and five strikeouts, while relievers
Chris Marone and
Nicholas Cancelliere each struck out two batters.
Game 2: Abington 10, Valley Forge 4
Valley Forge started the game scoring two runs in the first inning, hoping to get a jumpstart on the 2-0 lead. Abington answered back on their side with three hits for a four run spree.
Pat Moran singled out to right field, plating the first run at home, followed by Ditro scoring the second run of the inning off a Valley Forge fielding error.
Jesse Goldstein then grounded out to second base, driving in the final two runs of the inning to take the 4-2 lead.
The hitting streak didn't end there as Abington managed to collect a run in the second inning as Moran scored the lone run off of Ditro's double into left center, before the Nittany Lions added four additional runs during the third to extend the lead to 9-2.
Valley Forge hoped to rally in the top of fifth but could only muster two runs before giving up an Abington run in the sixth as the game winded down with the Nittany Lions claiming its sixth straight wins
The Nittany Lions will take tomorrow off to rest and will return to action on Saturday as they travel to New Jersey to for the 12 p.m. matchup against Rutgers University-Newark.
