Third Inning Outburst Carries Raiders Past Penn State Abington

Box Score
Rutgers-Newark scored all of its runs in the third inning in a 5-2 win over Penn State Abington in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snaps Abington's six-game win streak.

The Raiders piled up seven of their 12 hits in the third with senior third baseman Tim Miller's 2-run single to right field starting the scoring.  A sacrifice fly by senior catcher Anthony Palladino followed by RBI singles by freshman second baseman Andrew Nasti and sophomore leftfielder Jason McCluskey brought in the other runs.

A two-run home run in the fourth by junior catcher Mike Kerns was the only score Abington could muster against Rutgers-Newark's junior right-hander Kyle Van Vliet, who got the win by going six full innings, striking out nine and walking two against five hits.

The Nittany Lions hosts Stockton College tomorrow for a doubleheader with the first game starting at 12 p.m.
