Baseball Salvages Sunday Split With Stockton College

Abington avoided a weekend sweep at the hands of Richard Stockton College by taking 1 of 2 in a Sunday doubleheader with the Ospreys at Alverthorpe Park.
 
Abington (10-11) won the opener 4-3 in dramatic fashion before the Ospreys (12-6) claimed the second game by shutting out the Nittany Lions 15-0.
 
Game 1: Abington 4, Stockton 3
 
In the first game of the day, Stockton put up two runs in the first, however Abington battled back into the game as sophomore second baseman, Will Erskine scored off of freshman Chris Hunter's sacrificed fly as the Nittany Lions trailed by one run.
 
Stockton then extended the lead by two runs in the sixth inning, only to be matched by Abington's perseverance as Erskine came through once again, driving the ball out to right field for an RBI single. Pinch hitter, sophomore AJ Vagliani filled in for Hunter and had an RBI single, tying the game at three runs apiece.
 
Junior pitcher Robert Morak, fended off the Osprey batters in the seventh, giving up just two hits keeping Abington alive in the game.
 
Abington posted two runners on first and second in the opening of the seventh inning. Freshman shortstop Tom Ditro carried the momentum and delivered a strong contact with the out into the left center, rounding the runner from second to home for the walk-off run for the 4-3 victory.
 
Game 2: Stockton 15, Abington 0
 
In the second game, the Ospreys turned the tables, jumping out to a 4-0 lead and getting four big insurance runs in the fourth. Senior first baseman, Mike Wasco hit a grand slam for Stockton in the five-run fifth inning en route to the 15-0 win.
 
Abington were limited to just five hits as junior Dustin Kology, Ditro, junior Daniel Hill, Vagliani, and Erskine each nabbed the hits.
 
Abington is back in action March 31 as it opens the North Eastern Athletic Conference play at Cazenovia College for the 1 p.m. doubleheader.
