Both pitchers went the distance as the Penn State Abington baseball team lost 4-2 at Lynchburg College on
Friday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions fall to 4-6 overall while the Hornets improve to 9-3.
Abington got out in front early in the 4
th as
Mike Kerns led off the game with a single and scored on an RBI single from
Matt Lawson. Lawson then posted his second RBI of the game as he grounded out to second, allowing Kerns to score from third during the 6
th inning play.
The Hornets took advantage of their opportunities early on, using an RBI triple in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Lynchburg closed out their scoring in the eighth with a run-scoring single.
The Hornets found a gap in the 8
th inning Michael Kenah doubled to left field to bring the runner around from first safely home for the insurance run to make it a 4-2 ball game.
Abington's starting pitcher
Pat Trymbiski (0-1) dueled with Trevor Johnston the whole way but took the loss on the mound. Trymbiski threw six innings, allowing two hits, three runs and seven walks with a strikeout. Johnston (1-0) tossed in five innings, surrendering a run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Kerns led the offense from the third spot, going 4-for-4 at the plate with Lawson producing the two Nittany Lions RBIs.
Abington will return to Pennsylvania to rest before heading south of Philadelphia to face Swathmore College at 3:30 p.m.
next Tuesday.
