The Penn State Abington men's tennis team opened its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a 6-3 loss to Penn State Berks on Sunday afternoon.
It was the third win in four games for Berks, while Abington suffered just its second loss of the season. Berks improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the NEAC, while Abington fell to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
George Chacko and Steven Roughton gave Berks a critical 2-1 lead heading into the singles action with a thrilling 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles after edging out Abington's
Jordan Domsky and
Matthew Wolff by a score of 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Javier Quinones-Melendez and Creston Smoker also finished on the winning side of a tight contest for Berks. The pair won their No. 3 doubles match by a score of 8-6 over Abington's
James Howell and
Anthony Hui.
Nigel Hopkinson and
Ross Raddi earned the only doubles point for Abington with an 8-1 victory over Berks' Matt Holdorf and Bradley Kale.
Hopkinson finished his day undefeated after beating Roughton 5-7, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles bout. Raddi earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles.
The Nittany Lions will host Trinity College on Thursday, April 5th at 3:30 p.m.
