Ofluoglu Named United East Player of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington sophomore Kaan Ofluoglu was named the United East Conference (UEC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20 as announced by the conference office earlier in the week. This is the first time in his career that Ofluoglu is being recognized as the conference's top weekly player.

In the team's fall opener, Ofluoglu opened with a perfect 2-0 record for the Nittany Lions, earning victories in both singles and doubles action. He teamed up with fellow sophomore Daniel Trott for a No. 1 doubles victory (W, 6-4) against Elizabethtown's Stefanos Billis and Austin Kohler.

Ofluoglu went on to get the win at third singles by defeating Brian Hall in straight sets. He cruised to a 6-1 opening set victory before securing the second set, 7-6, with an ace to close out the tie-break.

Abington (0-1, 0-0 UEC) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Eastern University in a non-conference contest. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
