Softball Drops Seventh Straight, Falls to Wilson College.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Penn State Abington softball team was swept by Wilson College in a NEAC Conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Phoenix handed Abington a 9-6 decision in the opener and overwhelmed the Lady Lions 21-5 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Wilson 9, Abington 3

Abington hoped to start the game hot as the Lady Lions posted the first run of the game off of Sam Kidd's RBI single in the first inning.

The lead didn't last long as Wilson answered back scoring a pair of runs in the next two innings, scoring one of the run on a wild pitch to take the 4-1 lead.

The Lady Lions refused to surrender as they notched two runs in the third inning to trail 4-3. Kidd once again stepped up in the clutch with an RBI single, plating Melissa Kulp safely at home, and later scored on a throwing error.

The Phoenix responded, scoring two runs in three hits in the fourth, and kept Abington off the boards for the remainder of the game.  Wilson later added three additional runs in the last two innings for the 9-3 victory.

Kidd went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run.

Game 2: Wilson 21, Abington 5

Wilson came out strong in the first three innings, scoring 11 unanswered runs in nine hits before Abington finally responded back during the third inning with five runs, indicating that the Lady Lions will not surrender easily.

Junior Jalisa Clarke walked and later advanced to second and third off an error by Wilson's third baseman. Kulp then singled and advanced to second on the throw, at the same time, Clarke scored on the throw of the same play to give Abington its first run of the game.

Junior Mariellen Medernach kept the rally going on a 2 RBI double, plating Kulp and Melissa Brown at home. Junior Trish Watson then popped the ball out to the right field, in which Wilson's player dropped the ball on the play, giving Watson the RBI triple. Kidd continued her hitting streak and plated Watson safely at home on an RBI single with Abington trailing 11-5.

It was the only and last time the Lady Lions were able to score the runs in the remainder of the game as Wilson's pitcher Nicole Musser quieted Abington's bats, striking out ten. Wilson then used a seven-run fourth inning to extend the lead 18-5 before adding three additional runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Medernach finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run.

Abington will hit the road tomorrow as it travels to Haverford, Pa. to take on the Fords of Haverford College in a non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
