Baseball Sweeps Lancaster Bible College in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Penn State Abington swept Lancaster Bible College in a NEAC Conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon.

Abington remains in second place in the NEAC West Division behind Penn State Berks, who only played six games and had several cancellations to make up.

Game 1 – Abington 24, Lancaster 3

Abington's offense came alive in the second inning as Daniel Hill posted an RBI double for the first run of the game. Michael Corrigan rounded Hill at home on a RBI single to make it 2-0. Chris Hunter followed suit with an RBI single of his own before Matt Lawson finished the inning with a base hit double 2 RBI.

Lancaster responded back by scoring two runs in two hits in the top of the third but the rally didn't faze the Nittany Lions as they struck back, scoring seven runs in eight hits to push the lead out 12-3.

Abington's carried the hitting streak into the final three innings, driving in 11 more runs for the 24-3 win.

Parave started on the mound for Abington and pitched four innings, allowing just two runs in four hits, fanning three batters.

Lawson (2-for-3) and Kerns (2-for-5) led the RBI parade with four apiece, while Parave (4-for-4) and Hill (3-for-3) were both perfect at the plate, scoring three and two runs respectively.

Game 2 – Abington 4, Lancaster 3

The nightcap game told a different tale, as both teams were quiet at the plate.

The Nittany Lions got on board in the third inning when Vagliani rounded Jesse Goldstein home on a base hit double RBI. Lawson added the second run on the same tactic, plating Pat Moran safely at home for the 2-0 lead.

Abington later managed to extend the lead once more in the forth inning as Corrigan collected his forth RBI of the night on a base hit single as Tom Ditro scored from second.

Pitcher Brian camp had a strong showing throughout the game shutting down Lancaster's scoring opportunities as he allowed just three runs in seven hits, striking out four batters in the 29 batters that he faced.

The Nittany Lions mustered a solo run in the sixth, before Lancaster showed some muscle in the top of the seventh as the Chargers mustered a three run home run rally. Relief pitcher, Kevin Faber was called upon to end the rally and did just that in just four batters, striking out the final batter to end the game.

Lawson (3-for-3), Vagliani, Hill, and Corrigan each notched an RBI while Moran, Parave, Ditro, and Goldstein earned the runs for Abington.

Camp improved his record to 4-2 on the season as Faber notched his fourth save of the season.

Abington hosts Arcadia University Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
