The Penn State Abington baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Penn State Berks, losing the first game 5-3 and the second game 6-3 on Thursday afternoon.
Abington is now tied for second place with Gallaudet University in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
In the first game, Berks began scoring runs in the second inning, tallying two runs in two hits before extending the lead to 4-0 with two additional runs in the third inning.
Abington offense came alive in the fourth as
Matt Lawson began the batting order with a walk.
Mike Kerns then singled singled through the left side, advancing Lawson to second.
Bill Parave then singled and rounded to second on an error, driving Lawson to home plate for the first run.
Daniel Hill posted a 2 RBI double.
Berks then sealed the game in the top of sixth, scoring the insurance run on an error.
Hill went 1-for-3, posting two RBIs as Parave collected a cycle of a hit and a run.
Anthony DiVincenzo suffered the loss after going five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.
In the second game, Berks established a 3-0 lead after three innings to take control of the contest. Abington made a massive run in the top of the fourth to tie up the game. Abington plated three runs as AJ Vagliani scored the first run on an error by Berks' centerfielder, while Lawson plated the second run off of Mike Kern's single, who then advanced to third off the error. Parave then grounded out to the shortstop to bring Kerns safely home for the final run of the inning.
Berks broke the tie in the fifth inning with two runs and added a triple to end the game on a 6-3 note.
Lawson posted one run and one hit in three appearances, while Vagliani went 2-for-3 with a run.
Brian Camp started on the mound for Abington and pitched four innings, giving up five runs on six hits, striking out two and walked three batters.
Abington wraps up the regular season on the road on Saturday, April 21 in a NEAC Conference doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg. The first pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
