Baseball Sweeps Harrisburg, Makes NEAC Baseball Championship

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Penn State Abington baseball team swept Penn State Harrisburg, 7-6, 10-7 in a NEAC Conference doubleheader this afternoon.

Abington is now 10-4 in the conference and 23-17 overall and currently tied for second place with Gallaudet University in the West Division of the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Game 1 – Abington 7, Harrisburg 6

Abington got on board first in the third inning as Matt Lawson drove in the first run off an error by Harrisburg's second baseman. Bill Parave then added two additional runs for Abington on a 2 RBI single before Daniel Hill posted a sacrifice fly, allowing Mike Kerns to tag up from third for the fourth run of the lead.

Both teams earned a pair of runs in the fourth before Harrisburg began its rally in the sixth collecting three runs on three hits to trail behind Abington 6-5. Lawson then homered out to right field, adding an insurance run for Abington. Harrisburg hoped to tie up the game, but pitcher Robert Morak allowed just one run on three hits to give Abington the win.

Lawson (2-for-4) collected four RBIs and three runs, while AJ Vagliani went 3-for-4, scoring a run.

Hill notched his second win of the season after pitching five innings, allowing five runs on four hits. He struck out four batters and walked seven.
 
Game 2 – Abington 10, Harrisburg 7

Both teams hoped to take an early lead in the first three innings, as each scored a pair of runs before Abington took the lead for good during the fourth inning, scoring four runs to make it a 7-2 ballgame.

Alex Torres took the opportunity to score the first run of the inning on a Harrisburg's third baseman error as Moran used a sacrifice fly for an RBI, while Kerns and Parave each collected an RBI single.

Kerns tallied his second RBI of the game in the sixth before Harrisburg attempted a late rally to tie the game up, but could not do so as Abington posted four runs in the last three innings for the sweep.

Parave started on the mound for Abington, allowing six runs on eight hits and struck out two batters.

Abington will now await the final decision and prepare for the NEAC Conference Championship next weekend. The location of the tournament is yet to be determined.
