Baseball Eliminated From NEAC Playoffs

Box Score The Penn State Abington baseball team was eliminated from the North Eastern Athletic Conference today after a tough 2-1 loss to SUNY IT.

The pitching game was the main storyline for the low scoring game. Pitcher Brian Camp started on the mound for Abington and struck out five Wildcat batters, giving up two runs on five hits with two errors and walked two batters in the eight innings pitched.

SUNY IT's pitcher Michael Rose struck out just one batter, however allowed a run on 11 hits, all thanks to his defense to keep the game close.

Abington left a runner on bases, ten times on eleven hits throughout the game, compared to SUNY IT leaving a runner on bases, six times on five hits.

Neither team managed to score in the first six innings until SUNY IT broke the silence in the top of the seventh, scoring two earned runs on two hits.

Abington attempted to rally back in the ninth inning but was given the lone run when Michael Corrigan scored the unearned run on an error by the Wildcat's first baseman. After Pat Moran was intentionally walked, Matt Lawson grounded the ball, as SUNY IT converted it into a double play for two outs. Bill Parave hoped to tack the ball out of the park after a good contact, but the ball could not travel far enough as it was caught by the right fielder for Abington's final out of the game.

The Nittany Lions finished the 2011-12 season with a 23-19 overall record this spring and finished second in the conference standings with a 10-4 record.
