Immaculata Outlasts Abington Baseball, 14-11

Box Score Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a 14-11 decision to Immaculata University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions dropped to an even .500 (13-13) while the Mighty Macs improved to 9-12 on the season.

The Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning for the lead as Pat Moran posted an RBI triple. Immaculata scored a single run in the bottom of the before the Nittany Lions pushed across three more, as Dustin Kology knocked in an RBI triple in the second to extend the lead, 5-1.

The Mighty Macs responded in the bottom of the second scoring five runs to gain the lead. Billy Gaines started the scoring, knocking in a three-run homerun followed by Hardy's triple that plated the tying run. Immaculata later brought home a runner safely home to close out the frame for the 6-5 lead.

The Nittany Lions regained the lead in the top of the third as Tom Ditro became the third player to post an RBI triple that plated Bill Parave. Immaculata exploded with seven runs in the bottom of the frame for the lead, 13-7.

Abington pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and a single in the top of the sixth as Kology scored the run off an error by the Mighty Macs' third basemen, to cut the lead down, 13-10. Both teams added a run in the sixth and the Nittany Lions added a tally in the seventh but Immaculata held on for the win.

Kology collected two hits and scored three runs while Moran and Lawson finished with two RBIs apiece.

Abington starter Charlie Huber went 2.0 innings, allowing nine earned runs on seven hits and walked two. Kevin Faber came in relief, giving up five earned runs on eight hits and struck out two. Robert Morak wrapped it up in the last 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit and struck out a batter.

Abington returns to NEAC play on Friday, April 6 and hosts Gallaudet University for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
