Box Score 2 The Penn State Abington baseball team swept Keuka College in a doubleheader today, winning three straight North Eastern Athletic Conference games.
With the sweep, Abington improves to 4-2 in the conference and 16-14 overall on the season.
Game 1 – Abington 20, Keuka 3
Abington wasted no time scoring runs as the Nittany Lions baffled Keuka's pitcher, Jeremy Pyszczynksi in the first three innings of the game, scoring 11 runs in 11 hits.
Keuka mustered just three runs in the bottom of the third, however the Storm kept breaking up as Abington added four additional runs in the fourth inning off a
Pat Moran two RBI flied out to center field which, then forced an error by Keuka's third baseman, rounding
Dustin Kology and
Michael Corrigan safely at home for the 15-3 lead.
Keuka struggled to stop the bleeding throughout the game, allowing Abington to score a run in the sixth before giving up four more in the top of seventh.
Pitcher
Chris Marone started on the mound for Abington and struck out two batters, giving up just one hit for the win.
Bill Parave filled in relief and pitched a full three inning, giving up three runs in five hits.
Eleven batters posted a hit for the Nittany Lions in the win.
Kology led the squad, going 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring four runs and two RBIs. Moran and
Mike Kerns each collected three RBIs while Parave, and
Jesse Goldstein notched two RBIs.
Game 2 – Abington 9, Keuka 3
Game two proved to be more competitive as both teams were limited with scoring runs. Abington managed to score the first run of the game as
Tom Ditro plated the run on the tag up off a
Daniel Hill fly out to center field.
Abington mustered a run in the fourth, then used a seven-run fifth inning to bust the game wide open for the 9-0 lead.
Matt Lawson started the scoring spree for the Nittany Lions as he grounded out to second, plating Kology home from third. Kerns followed suit with an RBI single before Hill later doubled to bring home two runners. AJ Vagliani then walked and later scored off an error by the Keuka catcher before Kology wrapped the final run of the inning with an RBI single.
Keuka attempted a comeback, driving in three runs in three hits during the sixth, however it wasn't enough as pitcher
Kevin Faber calmed down the hitting streak to close out the inning.
Pat Trymbiski closed out the game for Abington with a 1-2-3 punch to wrap up the game for the sweep.
Brian Camp started on the mound for the Nittany Lions and pitched a full five innings, striking out four batters and gave up just one hit and walked two.
Hill went 2-for-3 at the plate, posting three RBIs and scored two runs of his own.
Abington will take a week off to recuperate and return to action on Friday, April 13
th for a full nine-inning non-conference match up against John Jay College. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
