Season Ends For Baseball With Loss To Penn State Behrend

Box Score
The Penn State Abington baseball season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the seventh-seeded Nittany Lions dropped a 8-1 decision to Penn State Behrend in the ECAC South Baseball Championship.

With the loss, Abington finishes the season with a 24-20 overall record.

After three innings of play and no score, all thanks to a combination of strong pitching and defense, Abington broke the scoreless game in the fourth inning as Dan Hill singled out to center field for an RBI single, rounding Matt Lawson safely home from second for the 1-0 lead.

The lead didn't last long as Behrend managed to find the window of opportunity in the bottom of the fourth as pitcher Bill Parave made a throwing error to first, allowing Behrend to score the unearned tying run.

Jesse Goldstein had a strong presence out in the field as he tracked down five pop flies, even a spectacular diving catch in the fifth, to keep Abington ahead throughout the game.

Behrend broke the tie in the bottom of sixth as the Lions scored two runs to make it 3-1. The runs piled on during the seventh as Behrend scored the game's next five runs to take the lead for good.

Abington could not find its hitting groove against Behrend's pitcher Dante DeSantis, who struck out eight batters throughout the game.

Parave started on the mound for Abington and struck out six batters in six innings, allowing three runs on two hits.
