ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team won their fourth straight game with a 3-0 sweep of Trinity Washington University (D.C.) Thursday night. The hot start marked the first time since 1993 that Abington has posted four consecutive wins.
Abby Millan and
Johangelie Thomas combined for 26 kills to lead the Lady Lions (5-2) to a 25-17, 25-10, and 25-20 win over the Tigers.
Millan, a freshman from El Paso, Texas had 15 kills, two aces, and seven digs. Thomas, a senior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico added 11 kills and 11 digs, her second double-double of the season. Sophomore
Leah Brown had 12 digs and 27 assists, posting a back-to-back double-doubles this week.
The Lady Lions led by as much as two points in the first set but the Tigers battled back midway through the match to even up the score at 16 apiece. Behind the strong service of
Leah Brown, Abington jumped ahead with six points before closing the first set on an ace by
Krysten Boyd sealed the 25-17 win.
The Lady Lions ran up a 18-6 lead in the second set as during Thomas's service, Abington won 10 straight points for the 25-10 set win.
Down by a point, the Lady Lions laced together five straight points to knot the score at 13 and jump ahead to a 17-13 lead. Trinity refused to surrender as the Tigers attempted to rally, however futile mistakes provided Abington the final eight points for the 25-20 win and the match.
Abington will take a week off to recover and will take on host Notre Dame of Maryland University (3-4) Tuesday, September 16
th.
