BALTIMORE, Md. – Lady Lions volleyball knocked off Notre Dame University of Maryland in straight-set 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) and had numerous Lioness contribute to the win. The win marked the first time in program history that the volleyball team has won five straight matches. In addition, the wins also marked the first time that Abington has won 15 consecutive sets and improved 6-2 on the season heading into North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend.
Freshman hitter
Abby Millan tallied 11 kills in the match to pace the Lady Lions offence and added an assist and also hit .474%.
Leah Brown followed closely behind with 15 assist along with teammates
Kate Schalck and
Johangelie Thomas adding nine and four kills respectively. Schalck added a career high of nine kills tonight.
Leading the defense for Abington, senior libero
Krysten Boyd racked up 11 digs in the match and also chipped in with a kill and two assists. Thomas and Brown helped keep the Gators offense at bay with eight and five digs respectively. As a team, the Lady Lions defense had a total of 30 digs to go along with tough serving, nine service aces.
The Lady Lions will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as they take on SUNYIT in their first match of a three match weekend at the NEAC Crossover in Aurora, N.Y. The three matches will be the first conference contests for Abington in the 2012 season.
