Volleyball Splits at McDaniel Tri-Match, Earn First Win of Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team split their tri-match hosted by McDaniel College on Saturday, sweeping Keystone College before falling to the host, McDaniel in five sets.

Abington opened the day with the Giants, sweeping all three sets with a 25-20, 30-28, 25-19 decision for its first win of the season. Freshman Abby Millan (El Paso, Texas) had the most effective net presence, dropping 15 kills in 44 attacks. Senior Krysten Boyd (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled 17 assists and notched nine kills.

With the short turnaround to take on the Green Terror, the Lady Lions struggled in the first two sets, but then found the rhythm to even up the match before dropping the tiebreak 16-14 in the fifth set.

McDaniel won the first two games 25-18, 25-23 before Abington returned the favor with a 25-24 in game three and used the momentum to run away with game four, 25-13. However, game five came down to the wire in each both teams traded points before McDaniel was able to break the tally in the last two services for the two-point win.

Sophomore Leah Brown (Southampton, Pa.) finished with a season high 31 assists and 10 digs. Millan and Johangelie Thomas (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and Millan each dropped 17 and 16 kills respectively. Teolinca Alegria (Elgin, Ill.) led the team with 25 digs and five service aces.

Now 1-2 overall, the Lady Lions get ready for the home opener next Wednesday, September 5th as they host Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.
