ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team swept Arcadia University, 8-0 Thursday afternoon. The Nittany Lions swept all three points in doubles action before taking charge in singles matches. With the win, Abington improves to 3-1 on the season.
The tandems of
Jordan Domsky and
Steven Ly,
Nigel Hopkinson and
Ross Raddi, and
Matthew Wolff and
Dan Steinberg swept the doubles competition 8-5, 8-6, 8-6 respectively.
In singles play, Domsky took control and overpowered his opponent with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles to keep the winning streak rolling. Hopkinson followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 victory as Ly collected a 6-3, 6-3 win over his foe.
The points kept adding up for Abington as Raddi posted a tough 6-4, 7-6 with a 9-7 tiebreaker to edge Eric Elre. Teammate
Anthony Hui nabbed No. 5 singles in a tough battle against Jeremy Garcia with a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), needing two tiebreakers for the win.
Wolff was on a hot streak after winning the first set 6-3, but Mother Nature prevailed as the No. 6 singles was called off for darkness.
Abington returns to action on Saturday as it heads to Fredericksburg, Va. to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional tournament this weekend.
