Box Score Galloway, N.J. - The Penn State Abington men's soccer squad took a weekend off from NEAC play and travelled to New Jersey for a match against quality opponent Richard Stockton. The Ospreys, out of the highly competitive New Jersey Athletic Conference, have received numerous votes in the past weeks in the NSCAA Top 25 rankings, and they were able to net the lone goal of the afternoon to defeat the Nittany Lions by a 1-0 score.
Penn State Abington (10-3, 6-0 NEAC) came into today's match having won their past seven matches, and looked to continue that strong run early. The Nittany Lions earned the first two corner kicks of the match, and senior forward
Alix Edwards took the first shot of the match for either side, all within the first ten minutes. However, the tide of the game would quickly turn in favor of the hosts, particularly when the Ospreys netted a goal at the 24th minute. Chris Katona chipped a shot over the head of Penn State Abington goalkeeper
Dan Saint-Pol and into the net to make it a 1-0 game, and that was all the scoring that was required. Richard Stockton outshot the Nittany Lions by a 19-6 margin and out-cornered the Blue and White 6-5. The Nittany Lions did come out of the gates firing in the second half, with two quick chances inside the first five minutes. However, they both went high of the goal, and those were actually the last shots of the game that Penn State Abington would take. Saint-Pol ended the match with six saves in a valiant losing effort against the quality Ospreys offense.
With the loss, the Nittany Lions drop to 10-3 overall on the year, but Penn State Abington is still in the driver's seat in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. With just two conference games left in the season, the squad sits atop the NEAC standings by a game over SUNYIT. The Nittany Lions will look to carry their undefeated conference record through to the playoffs, but they'll have to get through Keuka and Wells Colleges next weekend. Penn State Abington will host Wells at Father Judge on Saturday at 12:00 pm before taking on Keuka on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Germantown Academy. Be sure to keep tuned in to
