Abington Duo Earn All-Region Honors

Abington, Pa. – Penn State Abington senior Brendan Werner and freshman Aramis Shire were both named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region IV teams as selected by the organization's membership.  Werner was selected to the All-Region third team for the second straight season, while Shire received All-Region second team recognition in his first collegiate season.

This is the third straight year that Abington has had multiple players earn all-region honors.

"I just want to congratulate Aramis and Brendan on the seasons they had," said head coach Pat Morris. "It is a great honor to have two guys make the all-region team.  It is a testament to all the hard work these guys put in this season.  I am very happy and excited for them and the program."

Werner joins former standout Eljo Agolli as the program's only two-time all-region players.  Werner received third team honors last year.  The program's all-time leader in wins (21) and shutouts (19), Werner had another stellar season in net for the Nittany Lions as he finished 8-4-3 and totaled seven shutouts. He also recorded 48 saves and finished the year with a 0.95 goals against average; the lowest among United East Conference (UEC) leaders.

Werner wrapped up his career as a two-time All-United East selection with third team honors in 2024 and second team honors this year.  He owns the lowest goals against average in program history at 0.99 and holds the record for most games played in net (50) and is third all-time with 173 saves.  This season he was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week twice.

Shire is the first Abington rookie to earn all-region honors.  He previously was selected to the All-United East first team after an impressive first year at the collegiate level.  Shire started all 18 games he played in and totaled five goals and two assists for 12 points.  His five goals were tied for second most on the team.

Abington (9-6-5, 6-1-1 UEC) qualified for the postseason for the 12th time and ninth straight since joining NCAA Division III in 2011.  The Nittany Lions earned the third seed in the United East Tournament and advanced to the semifinals for the fifth straight season under Morris.  In the last three season, Abington is a combined 18-1-3 in the United East regular season.
