Abington Volleyball Swept 3-0 by Bryn Athyn

Box Score BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Penn State Abington volleyball team suffered their second straight loss on Thursday evening as Bryn Athyn College swept the Nittany Lions 3-0 with scores of the match going 28-26, 25-13, and 25-23. Abington falls to 9-20 on the year while the Bryn Athyn improves to 18-8.

Sophomore Abby Millan and freshman Rachel Bohl both led the team with 11 kills each as Millan racked up her sixth double-doubles of the season with 13 digs. Freshman Victoria Lohman posted 19 digs and two service aces on the night, while freshman Sam Nelson was credit with 16 assists and freshman Sam Amaro noted four kills on 10 attempts for a .400 attack percentage and a solo block for the Blue and White.

After the Penn State Abington took an early 21-19 lead, Bryn Athyn managed to rally back late in the game, forcing extra the first set into extra points. Led by their high power offense, the Lions tied the game three times till 26-26 before a pair of errors by Abington secured the first set for Bryn Athyn.

Abington started out slow, trailing 9-3 in the second set as Bryn Athyn continued to add points on the board off of blocks in the front line and service aces. The Nittany Lions tried to chip away at the Bryn Athyn lead, but was kept at bay, trailing 20-11. Bryn Athyn won the next five points to take the second set and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Both teams exchanged points in the third set and tied seven times till the match was at 21-21. Abington made three straight errors after their first timeout to give the Lions a 24-22 lead. The Nittany Lions took another timeout, hoping to slow down the Bryn Athyn momentum, but a service error gave the Lions the third set and the match.

Abington will be at home Saturday as the Nittany Lions host the Dig Pink Quad-Match. The first match for the Nittany Lions will begin at 10 a.m. against the Crusaders of Susquehanna University. Stay tuned to abingtonsports.com for more news and score updates on your Nittany Lions!
