Abington Volleyball Splits First Day of NEAC Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 READING, Pa. – The Penn State Abington volleyball team (8-15, 3-2) split on day one of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) south division pool play in Reading, Pa. Friday.

The Nittany Lions fell 3-1 to host, Penn State Berks (8-7, 3-2) early this afternoon before picking up a win over the College of St. Elizabeth (8-12, 0-6) in the nightcap.

Berks jumped out with a 25-17 decision for the first match point before Abington rebounded with haste to take the second set 25-22. The next two sets were all about Berks' attack as Abington could not handle the barrage as Berks tallied 26 total kills to close out the third and fourth set with a 25-17, 25-10 decision.

Sam Amaro (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the offensive attack with nine kills as Rachel Bohl (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied seven kills. Victoria Lohman (Frederick, Md.) served up 23 digs, while Cricket Lennon (Bethlehem, Pa.) was credited with 22 assists.

In game two against the Screaming Eagles, Abington returned to its winning ways as the Nittany Lions jumped ahead early, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-18, 25-13 before St. Elizabeth found life and took the third with a 25-16 decision. Abington finally closed out the match with a 25-20 decision in a contested battle for the 3-1 victory.

Bohl led the squad on offense with 12 kills followed by Amaro's 10. Lohman collected 18 digs to her total as Lennon posted a game-high 30 assists.

Abington will continue conference play tomorrow morning, starting at 10 a.m. versus Lancaster Bible before taking on the 2012 NEAC Champions, Gallaudet Unversity at 12 p.m. Stay tuned to Abingtonsports.com for more news and scores!
