Men's Tennis Falls to Visiting Conference Foe Rutgers Camden, 7-2

ABINGTON, Pa. – Visiting Rutgers Camden posted a 7-2 decision over Penn State Abington in NEAC Conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon. The Scarlet Raptors improved to 8-5 overall and undefeated with a 4-0 record in NEAC action, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Rutgers managed to edge the Nittany Lions with two doubles win with an 8-1 and 8-2 decision at No. 1 and 2, respectively. However, the duos of Jordan Domsky and Matthew Wolff teamed up and took down Adil Ismaa'eel and Mitch Lacsamana at No. 3 slot with a 8-2 decision for the point to keep Abington in contention.

The Scarlet Raptors appeared to be headed for a singles sweep, capturing No. 1 singles in straight sets but the hosts bounced back to capture No. 2 singles as Nigel Hopkinson won in an epic fashion. After winning the first set 6-3 over Aaron Hartman, Hopkinson began to struggle in the second with a 1-6 decision before storming back in the third to not only get the edge with a 7-6 but managed to out hustle his opponent for the 7-3 tiebreaker and the point for Abington.

Rutgers then swept the last four singles spot, No. 3-6 for the win. Monte Dunson and Matthew Wolff forced a tie after two sets, but fell short in the third with a 10-4 and 10-8 score, respectively.

Abington will continue conference play on Thursday, April 19th as it hosts Lancaster Bible College at 3:30 p.m.
