Men and Women Tennis Defeats Lancaster Bible, 8-1

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's and women's tennis teams both defeated Lancaster Bible College, winning both matches with an 8-1 decision.
 
The men's team improved to 11-6 on the year and 3-2 in NEAC conference play,
 
In doubles play, Lancaster came out striking first with a 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles as Alex Derus and Grant Noel defeated Abington's Steven Ly and Monte Dunson.
 
However, the Nittany Lions had other plans as Nigel Hopkinson and Ross Raddi took No. 2 doubles with a 8-3 decision followed by Jordan Domsky and Matthew Wolff winning 8-1 at No. 3 slot for the 2-1 Abington lead.
 
In singles play, Abington kept the momentum on their side as Domsky won No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3, while Hopkinson won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2. Steven Ly and Ross Raddi sealed the match for the team after both players easily countered their opponents in straight sets. Dunson and Wolff added additional points to wrap up the match on the day.
 
The women's remain undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 record, extending its winning streak to six to improve to 10-8 on the season.
 
In doubles play, Abington managed to sweep the first two doubles crediting Jenny Abraham and Alexandra Murianka the win at No. 1 along with Lori Phillips and Evgenia Nigay at No. 2 with a 8-4 decision each. Abington was then credit the final doubles point on a forfeit by Lancaster Bible for the 3-0 lead.
 
In singles play, the streak was snapped at No. 1 singles as Carmin Nachtigal forced a tiebreaker set to defeat Abington's Abraham 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 in three sets. Phillips sparked another run at No. 2 for the Nittany Lions as she easily won in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-0 decision before Olya Popili, Nigay, and Murianka each won No. 3-5 singles slot for the team victory. Carly Powell was credit the final point for Abington by forfeit.
 
Abington will wrap up the regular season tomorrow as the Nittany Lions hosts Penn State Berks at 11 a.m. before prepping for the NEAC Conference playoffs next weekend.
