ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's and women's tennis squads opened NEAC conference play with a 9-0 sweep over Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon. The men improved to 9-4 on the season, extending its winning streak to six, while the woman's also improved to 5-8 on the year.
The men's picked up the 9-0 win after downing the Wildcats this afternoon.
Monte Dunson and
Matthew Wolff picked up their fifth straight win after sweeping their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, in singles play at No. 5 and 6. The Nittany Lions only dropped eight games in singles play and swept all three doubles matches for win.
On the women's side, the Lady Lions picked up both doubles play while Cazenovia forfeited the third doubles match, only having four players present at today's match.
Jenny Abraham and
Olya Popili each picked up their sixth win on the year with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in No. 1 and a 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles , respectively.
The Nittany Lions return to action tomorrow as they travel west to take on Penn State Harrisburg in a conference match-up. The matches are slated to start at 12 p.m.
