Volleyball Drops Pair in Saturday Tri-Match

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team dropped both ends of their non-conference tri-match, falling to Immaculata University 3-2 (25-20, 25-12, 24-26, 18-25, 5-15) and then losing to McDaniel College by a score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-14) as well. McDaniel defeated Immaculata in the second match of the day, 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, 15-10).

Penn State Abington (0-3) began the first tri-match against Immaculata University on a hot start winning the first two sets -. The Nittany Lions had a shot to close out the match when the lead was 24-23 on the attack error by Immaculata's Haley Swearer (Coatesville, Pa.). However, two errors by Abington followed by a kill by the Mighty Macs, forced the fourth set.

Abington's early lead in the fourth set (3-1) came up short once again when services by sophomore Brittany Holland (Jim Thorpe, Pa.) and freshman Molly Truitt (West Chester, Pa.) helped the Mighty Macs spark a 21-8 rally. With the Nittany Lions trailing 22-11, junior Kate Schalck (Warminster, Pa.) and freshman Sam Nelson (Doylestown, Pa.) attempted a final comeback but the Nittany Lions fell short as the match was extend to a decisive set five. That's when the Mighty Macs stormed off the gate to an early 8-1 lead before a series of team effort downed Abington with the final score of 15-5.

Sophomore Abby Millan (El Paso, Texas) finished with 12 kills, 11 digs, two assists, and three aces. Schalck contributed ten kills, two aces, and a dig, while freshman Victoria Lohman (Frederick, Md.) posted a game high 14 digs on the year. Junior twin sisters Andrea Okoro and Alexandra Okoro (Gibbsboro, N.J.) each led Immaculata's offense with eight and seven kills respectively to lead the Mighty Macs to their first victory of the season.

Hoping to rebound after three hours of rest in between matches to recoup, Abington faced McDaniel College for the final showdown of the day. However, with a victory in the bag, the momentum continued on for the Green Terrors as they dominated the Nittany Lions in three sets (14-25, 16-25, 14-25). Each set were controlled by the Greens to start and Blue and White squad had no answers for McDaniel as freshmen Alyssa Gilboy (Marlton, N.J.) led the team defensively with a game high 21 digs followed by Genna Weger's (Shrewsbury, Pa.) 13 digs. Freshman Emme Petti (Ellicott City, Md.) contributed game high seven kills followed by sophomore Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo.) and freshmen Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa.) Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) with five kills individually.
Millan finished with six kills and four digs while freshman Rachel Bohl (Philadelphia, Pa.) collected a team high 17 digs and three service aces on the day.

Abington will head to Allentown, Pa. on Friday September 6th for its first win of the season at the Buttermaker Tournament. First match is to tip off at 3:00 p.m. against Muhlenberg College.
