Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Home Quad

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 ABINGTON, Pa. – After clinching the first win of the season on Thursday, the Penn State Abington women's volleyball team closed out the week today going 2-1 in its own quad-match. The Blue and White squad opened the day with a 3-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg and a 3-1 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University to establish a three-match winning streak before closing the day with a 5-4 setback to Wesley College.

The Nittany Lions improve to 3-8 on the season as sophomore outside hitter Abby Millan (El Paso, Texas) recorded 44 total kills with eight aces, 41 digs and a solo block in the three matches played. Freshman defensive specialist Rachel Bohl (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied 40 kills with nine service aces, 41 digs and a solo block. Freshman libero Victoria Lohman (Frederick, Md.) led the squad with 79 defensive digs as middle blocker Megan Tancini (Levitttown, Pa.) posted three strong solo blocks in front of of the net.

The Nittany Lions defeated Penn State Harrisburg in the opening round by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-17. Sophomore Leah Brown (Southampton, Pa.) led the Blue and White with 12 assists and eight digs, while Lohman added eight aces and 16 digs. Junior Rachel Scornaienchi (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a strong attack games with three kills, recording two aces, in four attempts with three digs.

In the middle match, the Lions set a three-game winning streak after a tight battle against Notre Dame of Maryland University by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-23. Brown picked up a team-high 19 assists, while Millan recorded her second double-doubles of the season with 19 kills and 16 digs. Bohl also tallied her first double-doubles with 13 kills and 17 digs in the win.

In the day's final match, the Nittany Lions took the first two sets in a tight battle over Wesley by scores of 25-23, 25-17, but the Wolvernies would not give up without a fight and battled their way back, taking the next two by scores of 26-24, 25-22, to force a deciding set before taking their third win with a 15-13 decision over Abington. Wesley ended up the being the only team to remain undefeated in today's quad-match. Millan and Bohl both recorded a pair of double-doubles with Millan showing 18 kills and 19 digs and Bohl chipping in 17 kills and 18 digs. Freshman setter Sam Nelson (Doylestown, Pa.) posted a game-high 42 assists for the Nittany Lions.

The Nittany Lions will look to return to its winning ways on the road next Tuesday, September 16th as it travels to New Jersey to take on the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden. The first service is set for 7 p.m.
