ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team took to the court for the second time this week, this time at Eastern University.
In doubles action, every match was closely contested. 3
rd doubles,
Mike Herman and
Sam Borai, came from behind 0-2, went ahead 5-2, before the match leveled out 6-6. They eventually won the first point for the Nittany Lions of the day 8-6. 2
nd doubles,
Monte Dunson and
James Howell, broke early and worked battled ahead most of the match, winning 8-6.
Steven Ly and
Kevin Wilkinson fought hard in a seesaw battle and had a couple chances to level the match serving at 6-7, but were unsuccessful and lost 6-8.
With just four courts, singles matches went on as players were available. Borai lost his match at 6
th singles, leveling the match at 2-2. However, Herman (1
st), Howell (3
rd), and Dunson (4
th) all took their first sets as the match continued to lean Abington's way. And unlike the matchup against Albright in the first match of the year, there was no let down for the Nittany Lions in the second sets.
Herman won 6-4, 6-1 taking complete control of the match in the second set. Howell won 6-1, 6-3, and Dunson secured the fifth point for the team with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Steven Ly (2
nd) played a strong match winning 6-3, 6-0. With the match in hand, as
Kevin Wilkinson was finally getting on court, his match was switched to an eight game proset and he ended up losing 4-8.
Abington will now prepare for their Alumni match this upcoming Saturday, and then head into their off season 2 – 2. Matches will resume in early
March 2014 for the Men's squad.
