Volleyball Struggles to Find Win, Drops Two on Final Day of York Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. – The Penn State Abington volleyball team dropped two additional matches on the final day of the 2013 York College Invitational. Abington fell to Rowan University in four sets by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18 and to FDU-Florham in three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-13. Abington falls to 7-14 on the season.

In the match with Rowan, Abington hit a blistering .142 clip on attack with 51 total kills as a team for the match, but Rowan proved to be too much, posting a .330 attack percentage against the Nittany Lions. Junior middle hitter Kate Schalck and freshman outside hitter Megan Tancini led the Nittany Lions offensively with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Freshman libero Victoria Lohman showed her prowess defensively recording 18 digs. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Bohl also dug up 11 Rowan attack attempts, while freshman setter Cricket Lennon dished out 24 assists in the four set match.

In the match with FDU-Florham, Abington had trouble finding the kill, recording a .011 attack percentage as a team. Schalck led the squad offensively with nine kills, while Lohman posted 19 digs. Freshman setter Heather Kobrzynski assisted on 11 Nittany Lion kills.

The more telling stats was FDU-Florham's 30 kills with 16 of them coming from the first set on 26 attempts and just one error for the Devil's .577 attack percentage that stunned Penn State Abington.

The Nittany Lions look to bounce back when they travel to Penn State Berks for the two-day conference crossover. Abington will open the weekend against the host team followed by the College of St. Elizabeth on Friday, October 4th  before wrapping up the final two matches against Lancaster Bible and Gallaudet University on Saturday.
