GLENSIDE, Pa. - After rolling to three wins in doubles play, Penn State Abington swept all but one singles match, including two in straight sets with one going into a tiebreaker and a third set, en route to a 9-0 shutout of Arcadia University in non-conference men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.
Abington is now 3-1 on the year, while Arcadia picked up its first loss of the 2014-15 campaign.
Freshman
Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem, Pa.) won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles along with classmate
Michael Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.). Senior
James Howell (Abington, Mass.) and junior
Monte Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa.) paired up for an 8-2 victory at second doubles, while first-year
Justin McNab (Elkins Park, Pa.) and senior
Kevin Wilkinson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted an 8-3 triumph at No. 3.
Ammouni continued his hot streak in the fall season with a pair of 6-0 scores for the win at No. 1 singles, while
Mike Herman (Philadelphia, Pa.) needed a tiebreaker to clinch the No. 2 singles by scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Howell needed a third set to pull off a 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 win at No. 3 singles, before Dunson swept their opponents in straight sets at No. 5 singles as Arcaida forfeited the 6th singles to give Abington the 8-1 decision.
Abington will close out the fall season by hosting their Alumni match on Saturday, October 18th and then head into their off season 3-1. Matches will resume in early
