Baseball Suffers Tough Loss Against SUNY Cortland

Box Score Auburndale, Fla. – The Penn State Abington baseball squad took on the number eight team in the country in SUNY Cortland earlier this afternoon in the midst of their spring break trip to the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions were unable to get their bats going, and the Red Dragons, who moved up to the eight spot in this week's D3baseball/NCBWA Top 25, used 20 hits, five walks, and two Penn State Abington errors to score 15 runs in a shutout victory over the Blue and White. Junior Tom Ditro got the start on the mound and only allowed four earned runs in four and two-thirds innings pitched, while Mike Scaringelli, Trey Guaglionona, and Diego Melendez notched Penn State Abington's only hits in the game. Senior A.J. Vagliani came in and threw two scoreless innings to finish out the game for the Blue and White. Meanwhile, five different Cortland pitchers combined to throw the nine-inning shutout, with Zach Ferris getting the win by allowing just two hits and a walk in four innings of work. Each starter for the Red Dragons got at least one hit and also either scored or knocked in at least one run. Penn State Abington will look to quickly forget today's contest and move ahead to tomorrow's contest. The Nittany Lions continue their spring break series with a game against Mount St. Joseph's on Wednesday afternoon, with the game slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
