Abington Baseball Drops Series Finale At Keuka, 22-8

Box Score KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped its third game to Keuka College with an 22-8 loss in the three-game series finale at Kuhl Field Sunday. The Storm, ran their record 9-9 and 4-4 in the league. Abington fell to 8-15-1 on the year and 2-7 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

Keuka scored twice in the first inning, five in the second for the 7-0 lead before Abington managed to post a run on the board by senior AJ Vagliani, who scored on the throw during the top of the third inning. The Storm, meanwhile, jumped to a 9-1 lead as it countered with a pair of runs in the bottom frame.

Abington looked to rally in the fifth inning when junior Tom Ditro singled out towards center field for an RBI single before senior Brian Camp followed suit on the next play, plating Ditro from second to score two runs. Keuka would only match that and more in the bottom frame, scoring three runs. With the bases loaded, the Storm would score the first run of the inning on a walk to advance the runners before D. Goetz doubled out toward left center to collect 2 RBIs for the Storm, now leading 12-2 after five innings.

Despite the huge margins, Keuka continued to battle the Blue and White with its power hitting, utilizing a 9-run seventh to extend the lead 22-2. Abington's bat came back to life in the final inning of the game as the Blue and White scored five runs, four of them unearned, on one hit and two errors, but it was not enough as the Nittany Lions fell short by a 22-8 decision.

Sophomore Ted Smallwood led Abington, going 5-for-6 with an RBI and scored once, while freshman Mike Scaringelli and Ditro both went 2-for-4 as Ditro collected an RBI and scored a run on the day. freshman Michael Dunlap pitched three full innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits, fanning two batters before being relieved in the fourth frame.

Keuka's pitcher sophomore Kyle Michaud befuddled the Blue and White batters, as he struck out six Lions and allowed just three runs on nine hits.

Abington will return to action on Wednesday, April 16 as it hosts Lancaster Bible in a doubleheader NEAC contest. Abington took the first game, 7-6 in the three-game series. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
