Victoria Lohman (Frederick, Md.) was counting down the number of digs needed as she approached the 1,000 career mark as the Penn State Abington women's volleyball team split Friday night. The Nittany Lions dropped the first match to host York College of Pennsylvania, 3-0 before battling back in five stats for the 3-2 victory over Albright College.
After Tuesday's 3-0 win over Bryn Athyn College, Lohman needed just 40 more digs to achieve the milestone and did just that and more as she tallied 22 digs against York College before posting a career-high 72 digs in a five-set match against Albright College to become to the first player in program history to achieve the 1,000 career mark in just two years.
Abington dropped the first match to the Spartans by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-11. Sophomore
Sam Amaro (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the squad with seven kills and 11 digs, while teammate
Cricket Lennon (Bethlehem, Pa.) collected 12 assists.
The Blue and White rebounded in the next match, forcing a five-set competition for the 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 15-9 victory. Amaro led the attack with 24 kills, three aces, and 20 digs, while
Rachel Bohl (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied 19 kills with three aces and 16 digs. Sophomore
Sam Nelson (Doylestown, Pa.) was credited with 40 assists as freshman middle blocker
Maria Farrell (Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a season-high four solo blocks in the win.
Abington (7-10) will return to action today with a pair of matchups versus Stevenson University at 12 p.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU)-Florham at 2:00 p.m.
