Box Score 3 ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team went 1-2 on the day at its second consecutive quad-match, hosting Arcadia University, Trinity Washington (D.C.), and Wesley College on Saturday. With the record, Abington is 2-5 on the season.
The Blue and White started the day with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-14) sweep over the Tigers of Trinity Washington. Sophmore
Sam Nelson (Doylestown, Pa..) posted a career-high six service aces and collected 16 assists in the Nittany Lions' second win of the year. Fellow classmate
Sam Amaro (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the squad with nine kills and four digs while
Rachel Bohl (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied six kills and three digs with five aces of her own.
The Nittany Lions faced Wesley in the next match. Abington jumped ahead early in match, taking the first set, 25-13, but struggled to find momentum as the Wolvernies bit back in the next three sets, 25-21, 25-17, 25-10 for the win. Amaro added 12 more kills to her tally as sophmore
Victoria Lohman (Frederick, Md.) came up with 29 digs in the loss.
With Abington now even at 1-1 on the day, the Blue and White hoped to close out the final match against Arcadia University, who lost to Wesley in stright sets, with another win in the 'W' column. Just like the previous matches, Abington came out strong, taking set one with 25-21 decision over the Knights before showing signs of wear and tear from the gruling matchups all day long as Arcadia went on to take the next three sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-18) to close out the day with a 3-1 win.
Amaro and Bohl both led the Nittany Lions with 28 kills apiece as Amaro collected 20 digs to Bohl's 27 on the day with Bohl leading the team with 11 service aces. Lohman completed the three-match fest with 60 digs as Nelson posted 45 assists and sophmore
Cricket Lennon (Bethlehem, Pa.) added 37 assits to the teams total of 90 assists on the day.
Abington will take the action down to Westminster, Md. next Saturday as the Nittany Lions look to add two more wins to the year in a tri-match with Goucher College and host, McDaniel College next Saturday. The first match is slated for 2 p.m.
