Nittany Lions Take Down Mules, 14-3

ALLENTOWN, PA – After a tough start to the season the Penn State Abington baseball team has won seven of their last eight games, including an impressive 14-3 win over Muhlenberg on Thursday afternoon. After today the Nittany Lions sit at 8-6 overall for the season.

Freshman pitcher Pat McDonald (North Wales, PA), put a shaky first inning behind him, and went on to earn his second win of the year.

Down 3-0 early in the game, the Nittany Lions exploded at the plate in the fourth inning, taking the lead with eight runs. With bases loaded Darren Aupperle (Barrington, NJ) started the scoring with his single out to left field. Back-to-back doubles from Jaden Himmelreich (Temple, PA) and Joseph Rizzo (Gibbstown, NJ) added another four runs to their total. Ryan McCarty (Yardley, PA) capped off the inning with an RBI triple to deep right field.

In the seventh inning the Nittany Lions did more damage when Aupperle sliced a single up the middle of the infield to drive in two runs.

Later in the ninth inning McCarty put the game out of reach with another triple to deep right field and drove in another two runs.

Abington will look to keep momentum when they host Gwynedd Mercy tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
